Church Kids' Talks
This Session, our Kids’ Talk theme has been Old Testament Heroes and Heroines! We started in January, when Jerome told us how God can give us courage like David; Lorna spoke about Ruth, who obeyed God by looking after her mum-in-law, and Jamie M talked about Noah, who was different from everyone else because he listened to God. In February, Catherine told us about Rahab, who did what God wanted, even though she was scared; Tracey talked about Moses’ brave Mum, who trusted in God, and Jamie L spoke about how God helped Joseph during bad times. In March, at our ‘Souper Sunday’ Service, Emma and Lucy talked about God always being with us and the following week Jamie M used the story of Gideon to think about all the skills God has given us.

Activities
ACTIVITIES
Our different activities help us remember, and understand more, about the story we have heard in Church during the Kids’ Talk.

When we restarted in mid January, Jerome told us a story using chocolates, to encourage us to bring our friends to Church. So we made 2010 Calendars, one for us and one for a friend, with cartoon pictures of famous Bible stories. We also learnt a song called “Witness All Over the World”, with words encouraging us to tell people about Jesus, to the music of the famous Status Quo song, “Rockin’ All Over the World”!

We have sung the action song “Only A Boy Named David”, played a computer game about the story of Ruth, folded origami boats to remind us of Noah’s Ark, made pictures of baby Moses in his basket and listened to music from the Joseph stage show, and made colourful Story Books.

Just before Valentine’s Day, we created a heart collage for our wall and Jesus Loves Me bookmarks to take home. We also sang “God’s Love is the Best Love”. Then on Mothers’ Day, we gave daffodils to all the ladies in Church and designed special cards to give to our Mums!

We have also been busy making some arts and crafts to display in the Session House, including a giant funky foam “God Made The Animals” collage, a colourful Prayer Chain and some stained glass windows!

This is a youth organisation meeting on Sundays during the service for those in P7 to S3. We hang out with Tracey and try to have fun. We will join with Inspire and Kidzone for family services.

We have only had two sessions in this new term and are still finalising our format, themes and discussing what outings we think we should go on.

Inspire
Inspire Logo ©There are some churches where no young people attend on a Sunday morning at all but Polmont Old is blessed to have this enthusiastic group, whose members are often seen in church even on "holiday" Sundays, taking part in worship and helping with activities like operating the overhead projector, serving tea and coffee after church or helping in the creche.

The teenagers have been working together this year – and did a series of bible studies on heroes which helps us understand where the Children’s talks are going (thanks to Amanda, Jamie, Lucy and Emma for helping out in the talks in the services too!). Congratulations to Amanda, Emma, Jamie and Lucy who have recently all become church members.

Now we are doing a study on Easter – focussing on Luke’s telling of the Easter story and food. We have been discussing the events of Holy Week and how there is much more to Easter than the over-commercialised festival of Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs (though we do like Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs!). We have enjoyed pancakes at the start of Lent and hot cross buns. We will participate in a Passover meal on 21st March and look at what Jesus’ last supper was really like. We took part in the Easter Family Service on Palm Sunday (28 March).

Inspire is for young people from fourth year at high school until 18 or thereabouts, so if you fall into that category or you know someone who does, we'd love you, or them, to join us! See any of the group or give Lorna a call (01324 711228) and we'll be glad to give you more details.

The Grid
Any one still at school and in P7 or above is welcome to join us at The Grid. We meet every second and fourth Sunday evening at 6:30pm to 9:30pm in the Church Hall. We play excellent games like chairball and dodgyball, with Jerome and Gordon. Then we eat cheese toasties and watch a movie. This is followed by a short discussion on the topics raised by the film.

The Grid continues to be popular and we have continued playing chairball and dodgyball, as well as watching movies and discussions about them. We watched Knowing and discussed how even though the world ended, God had planned a continuation. We saw Monsters vs Aliens and talked about having confidence in ourselves and our own decisions and avoiding discrimination. We watched Up and remarked how important it is to have dreams and to try to live them out, but noticing the important parts of our lives along the way. And we watched Night at the Museum 2 and had a debate on the merits of the film and what is could teach us about how to live our lives.

Feel free to bring your friends.
