Many of you will know that I am one for new songs and exuberant worship in song and dance. It is a good thing to worship God with all of one’s body, heart, soul and mind. Having said that, there are certain songs that, for me, are simply timeless. One of my all-time favourite songs is “When I Survey”:
“When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died.
My richest gain I count as loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.”

How can so few words put all the most important things in life into such easy, clear perspective?

But it is the last verse that always gets to me:
“If the whole realm of nature were mine, it would be an offering far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.”

Yes, Easter is all about love. God’s love, not just spoken of or dreamed about, but actually demonstrated on that cross and from that tomb. Jesus dies so that I may not have to; Jesus rises to new life so that I may have eternal friendship with God. What on, in, under or above the earth could I offer that would compare to such love?

I would prefer people to say that all this God talk is a load of nonsense to be refuted, than for people to be indifferent about this magnificent love from God. But most of all, I would love people to respond with new songs and exuberant worship.

He is risen. Worship Him.
