The New Parish Church of Polmont - 1845

FOREWORD

In 1969, on the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the new church, a short history of Polmont North Parish Church was prepared.

While the date on the foundation stone is visible to all who pass by, finding out when the new building was opened for worship was not so easy. It is the 150th anniversary of that latter date, (which turned out to be 20th July, 1845) which we are now celebrating.

In his investigations Malcolm Little has unearthed a lot of new and interesting material, some of which makes up this fascinating volume. The reader is transported back into a bygone community in which wealth was in the hands of relatively few and in which that few were charged with the responsibility for providing a new church.

Today the responsibility to rise up and build has fallen on our shoulders and I hope that this glimpse into our congregation's past will inspire us to remain faithful and give ourselves in a fresh way to building the fellowship of the church in our generation.
